Nobody Can Love You Back Together

You can be a good person and end up in the same bad situation four different times. That's not bad luck and it's not bad judgment. Usually it means the wound is doing the picking.

There's a man in John 5 lying beside a pool called the House of Mercy — a place where healing goes to whoever gets in the water first, which makes it a race between disabled people where the prize goes to whoever is least disabled. He'd been there thirty-eight years. And when Jesus asks him a yes-or-no question, he doesn't answer it. He says, I have no man.

His whole theory of healing required somebody else to show up. Most of us have just updated the wording: if I just had somebody, I'd be better.

This episode is about what it costs to make a person the water — and four things it takes to get up off that mat before anybody comes.

The question: Am I choosing this person, or is my wound choosing them?
