CLEARED AND KEPT FOREVER

Psalm 23:5–6 | 23 & Me: Deep Dive

What does the Shepherd provide after leading us through the valley?

In the final study of our “23 & Me: Deep Dive” series, Rev. Austin J. Young explores Psalm 23:5–6 and the Shepherd’s promise of provision, anointing, pursuit, and permanent belonging.

David’s imagery shifts from the valley to the tableland, the elevated place where the shepherd prepares safe ground for the sheep to rest and eat. God does not merely bring us out of danger. He goes ahead of us, clears the ground, removes what could harm us, and prepares what we will need next.

The Shepherd also anoints our heads with oil. The oil brings healing, protection, relief, and consecration. It reminds us that we are not only surviving the journey, we are being cared for and marked as belonging to God.

Then goodness and mercy begin to pursue us. We are not chasing after God’s favor. His goodness and faithful love are following us through every season, every transition, and every step toward home.

The Shepherd prepares the table, pours the oil, clears the way, and keeps us forever.
