Sermon Replay | Praise, Pressure and Palms

Apr 2, 2026

This powerful Palm Sunday message invites us to examine the intersection of praise, pressure, and surrender in our spiritual lives. Drawing from Matthew 21:8-9, we witness the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where crowds laid down their cloaks and palm branches, shouting 'Hosanna!' But here's the deeper truth we must grasp: these weren't strangers praising a rumor—they were people with receipts, people who had witnessed Jesus' resume of miracles, healings, and deliverances. The message challenges us to reflect on our own receipts with God, those personal testimonies of what He has done in our lives. Yet it doesn't stop at praise. We're confronted with the reality that the same word 'Hosanna' means both worship and 'save us now'—revealing how we often praise God while simultaneously pressuring Him to perform according to our expectations. The crowd wanted a political king, the Pharisees wanted a manageable Jesus, the disciples wanted a safe Messiah, but Jesus refused every contract and stayed committed to His Father's assignment. This speaks directly to our tendency to run tabs with God, keeping mental accounts of our faithfulness and expecting specific returns. The call is clear: we must move from transactional faith to covenant relationship, surrendering our timelines, our terms, and our versions of deliverance. When we finally lay down our burdens at His feet—just as the crowd laid down their cloaks—Jesus can ride over our pressures in victory. The question for each of us is simple yet profound: Are we ready to stop managing everyone's expectations and stay faithful to our God-given assignment?
