Can We Talk?

COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSIONS · SPRING 2026
Before we plan anything, we want to listen.

John Wesley Church is hosting a series of community conversations this spring. We are calling them Can We Talk? and the idea is simple: we want to hear from people across Southfield and the Detroit metro area about what they are carrying, what they need, and what would actually help. What we hear will shape what we do next.

You Are welcome

Join the conversation

What this is

  • A genuine, casual conversation — more like a neighborhood kitchen table than a meeting
  • Open to anyone in the community — you do not need to be a member of John Wesley
  • Anonymous — nothing you share will ever be connected to your name
  • About 75 minutes — and there is a $5-$10 gift card as a thank-you for your time
What this is not

  • Not a church service, a worship event, or a Bible study
  • Not a membership drive — nobody is trying to sign you up for anything
  • Not a debate — there are no right answers and no pressure to agree with anyone
  • Not just for people of faith — if you are curious, skeptical, or somewhere in between, you belong here

What to expect

What to expect when you show up

A trained conversation leader will welcome you and walk the group through a set of open questions about life, faith, community, and what you wish existed in Southfield. You can share as much or as little as you want. You can pass on any question. There is no agenda beyond listening.

In-person sessions include food and hospitality. Childcare is available at the April 2nd session at JWC. All four sessions are about 75 minutes and end with a $10 gift card as a thank-you for your time. Everyone who participates is also automatically entered into a raffle for one of four $50 gift cards, drawn April 24th.
